37. An Upper Thames Branch Guided Walk at BBOWT Greenham Common, Oxon, Led by Peter Philp

Greenham Common is a BBOWT Nature Reserve, part of one of the most extensive tracts of rare lowland heath in Southern England. Once notorious for the nuclear cruise missiles stored at the air base, it now supports very special wildlife including numerous rare and restricted-range species.We will explore the extensive heath, looking for its summer butterflies and day-flying moths. We hope to find the, range-restricted, Grayling as well as a variety of other heathland wildlife.Accessibility & risks: the main tracks across the common are level and accessible for those with limited walking ability; the undulating wooded valleys have uneven terrain including steps.
