Cookie Policy

Cookies are small text files that are stored on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, or work more efficiently, and to provide information to website owners. Cookies help us recognise your device on return visits and improve your experience by remembering your preferences.

discovernearme uses cookies to: remember your preferences such as location and filters; keep you signed in to your account between visits; understand how you use our website through analytics data; and improve the performance and reliability of the service.

We do not display adverts on discovernearme, and we do not load the Meta Pixel or any comparable third-party advertising tracker. We do, however, allow Google to use your analytics data for advertising purposes if you switch Marketing on in your cookie preferences — see Advertising Signals below.

Strictly Necessary (always active)

These are essential for the website to function and cannot be disabled.

• `session` — encrypted JWT that keeps you signed in between pages. Set on sign-in (Google OAuth or email), cleared on sign-out. Duration: 7 days (refreshed on each visit), or until you sign out.

Preference Storage (always active)

• `nr_cookie_consent` — stores your cookie consent choices in your browser's localStorage (not a browser cookie). Duration: 12 months, after which we ask for your preferences again.
• Session identifier — a randomly generated id held in your browser's sessionStorage (not a cookie), used only to group your own activity signals into one browsing session when you're signed in with analytics cookies on. See "Your Activity Log and Personalisation" in our Privacy Policy. Duration: cleared roughly every 30 minutes of inactivity or when you close the tab.

Analytics Cookies (only with your consent)

These are only set after you accept analytics cookies via the consent banner.

• `_ga` — Google Analytics 4 cookie used to distinguish unique users. Duration: 2 years.
• `_ga_*` (where \* is our GA4 measurement ID) — Google Analytics 4 session state cookie. Duration: 2 years.

Advertising Signals (only with your consent)

Switching Marketing on in your cookie preferences does not load an advertising tracker of its own. What it does is tell Google Analytics that it may use your data for advertising: we set Google's consent signals `ad_storage`, `ad_user_data` and `ad_personalization` to "granted". That permits Google features such as remarketing audiences, cross-device reporting through Google Signals, and advertising performance measurement, and Google may set additional advertising cookies or identifiers under that consent.

Leaving Marketing off sets all three signals to "denied". They are also inert while Analytics is switched off — the Google Analytics tag is never loaded in that case, so no advertising signal is sent at all.

Some features of discovernearme may load content from third-party services, which may set their own cookies. These third parties have their own privacy and cookie policies. We do not control third-party cookies and encourage you to review the policies of any third-party services you interact with.

You can control and manage cookies in several ways:

• Cookie consent banner — appears on your first visit. Click Accept All, Reject All, or Manage Preferences to set your choices.
• Cookie Settings — click "Cookie Settings" in the footer at any time to update your preferences.
• Browser settings — most browsers allow you to refuse or delete cookies via their settings. Removing authentication cookies may sign you out of your account.
• Google Analytics opt-out — you can also prevent Google Analytics from collecting data across all websites by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
