Sheffield By The Seaside
Sheffield
About
A massive pop-up urban beach event featuring a giant sandpit, live entertainment, Punch & Judy, and fairground rides inside Sheffield Peace Gardens. Staged within the pedestrianized surroundings of the Peace Gardens, the event operates daily from Thursday 23rd July to Monday 31st August 2026. Opening times are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM seven days a week.
Entrance to the main beach area and the daily entertainment programme is free for all visitors. The central feature of the event is a massive, purpose-built sandpit filled with tons of soft sand, bordered by traditional white picket fencing and standard deckchairs for adults. The Fountains: Directly adjacent to the sandpit, the permanent water jets of the Peace Gardens run continuously throughout the day.
Children are permitted to splash through the fountains to cool down, making the area a natural combination of sand and water play. Fairground Rides & Extras (Paid Activities): To add to the seaside atmosphere, a selection of traditional fairground rides are available for a small fee. These are situated on Fargate with a traditional helter skelter, dodgems and carousel as well as other firground style activities.
Food & Drink Stalls 🍔🍦: Would it be a trip to the beach without an ice-cream? Several food and rinks options will be available for all ages to enjoy a tasty treat. Getting There: Sheffield Railway Station is a major national transport hub with direct regional lines running from Leeds, Doncaster, Barnsley, York, and Chesterfield.
The Peace Gardens are located less than half a mile from the station platform—a straightforward, uphill 10-minute walk passing straight by the unique water cascades of Sheaf Square and up Howard Street. The city's light rail network provides direct drops right beside the event. Visitors can take any tram line to either the Cathedra Stop or the Castle Square Stop.
Both stations leave you with a flat, 3-minute walk directly onto Pinstone Street. As a central city centre location, the Peace Gardens are served by dozens of local bus routes terminating along Arundel Gate, High Street, and the main Interchange station at Pond Street, all situated within a 5-minute radius. Driving directly into central Sheffield can be complex due to the inner-ring road systems and the city's active Clean Air Zone rules.
For those driving, multiple multi-storey pay-and-display car parks sit directly adjacent to the event zone: Q-Park Charles Street (S1 2NJ): Also known locally as the 'Cheesegrater' car park, this is the closest secure parking option, located a 2-minute walk from the Peace Gardens. NCP Sheffield Crucible (S1 1HS): Located right beneath the theatre complex, providing a flat walk past the Lyceum straight into the gardens.
