About

Join our friendly community volunteer morning at Maghull’s award-winning Woodend Project (BBC Make a Difference environmental award winner 2022). We’d love local residents, families, friends, businesses and community groups to join us on Wednesday 22 July 2026 at 9.00 am for a relaxed one-hour outdoor session at Woodend. Together, we’ll help weed and tidy Maghull’s largest community woodland border, where around 500 donated shrubs are now maturing beautifully. 📍 Where to meet Please meet at Woodend, next to Bumbles Children’s Nursery, at the junction of Liverpool Road South and Northway. 🧤 What we’ll be doing There will be simple jobs for all abilities, including:

Weed the 50m community woodland border (main task) Tidy around the newly planted trees Weed the community kindness art installation rockery Shape the willow arch entrance

If you can, please bring: sturdy boots, garden gloves, a spade, hand fork or garden fork. Don’t worry if you don’t have everything — just come along if you can. 👏 A special thank you

Thank you to Tina, Colin and Frank, who joined last week’s one-hour session on 16.7.26 and remarkably helped fill three full agricultural bags for recycling, from weeding, shaping hundreds of shrubs and trimming face of rear hedge. Thank you also to Jimmy and Angela for kindly donating the wonderful fire surrounds, which will become striking ornamental features at Woodend.

Why Woodend matters: Woodend includes remnants of a medieval woodland recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book. Since the pandemic, FOMD volunteers have helped transform this once-neglected entrance to Maghull into a welcoming natural oasis, earning the BBC Make a Difference Environmental Award and recognition from Buckingham Palace. A strong turnout could help us complete this work in one morning rather than over several weeks, freeing volunteers to begin new projects across Maghull. It’s a simple way to enjoy fresh air, meet neighbours and help make our town greener, healthier and happier. 💚 Everyone is welcome — no experience needed, and no ongoing commitment required. Please check the FOMD Events tab for any last-minute changes, and please share this post with anyone who may enjoy spending an hour outdoors helping their local community. Best wishes, Friends of Maghull & District (FOMD) Together, we can keep making Maghull a greener, healthier and happier place to live.
