About

Join our Librarians for an informal session devoted to reading and careful handling of artists’ books. The Sculpture Research Library on the first floor of the Institute has a growing collection of bookworks. You’re invited to slow the pace and engage with the book as a material object, considering how its physical presence relates to its meaning.

We’ll explore the diverse ways sculptors extend their practice through making books. Our collection includes land and environmental works documenting ephemeral interventions; tactile works that evoke mass, void and texture; as well as books that unfold, expand, or incorporate pop‑up structures to occupy space. Discover rare books by Richard Long, Hamish Fulton, Andy Goldsworthy, Keir Smith, Niki de Saint Phalle, Gilbert & George, Kara Walker, Christian Boltanski, Sophie Calle, Magali Reus, Fernanda Gomes and Dineo Seshee Bopape.
