About

Have you ever wanted to learn how to draw a portrait but weren’t sure where to begin? This relaxed, three hour workshop welcomes anyone with an interest in drawing, whether you’re picking up charcoal for the first time or looking to develop existing skills, giving you practical techniques and the confidence to create your own portrait. Bring one clear head and shoulders portrait photograph, printed or on a phone or tablet, of yourself, a family member or a friend.

All charcoal, paper and materials are provided. The session is led by charcoal artist Kenneth Uzoigwe, whose practice explores silence, memory and identity through figurative drawing. Participants will learn how to observe a face, understand facial proportions, and work with light, shadow and tone to build depth and expression, leaving with a completed charcoal portrait and techniques to keep practising at home.

The workshop takes place at Convention House, Saint Mary’s Lane, Leeds, LS9 7EH on Saturday 22 August 2026 from 11 am to 2 pm. Tickets are £5 per person, with just 10 spaces available. Find Kenneth: munachiart.com @munachi_art
