Engage: Knitting as an Espionage Tool
Thu 3 September · Huntingdon
Thursday, 3 September 2026 · 1:30 pm – 3:00 pm
About
Far from the cosy image of grey-haired grannies knitting endless socks or charity squares, come and hear how knitting played an important part in wartime espionage.
Discover how the simple binary system of just 2 stitches, Knit and Purl, could be used to pass on information to resistance groups and others involved in clandestine warfare.
Speaker Linda Parkhouse has spent over 40 years as a freelance hand-knitting pattern designer and writer for all the major women's general interest national magazines, as well as many specialist knitting publications, with a special interest in the history of knitting.
FREE talk (donations welcome). Adults only. Advance booking essential. Please ask staff at Huntingdon Library, call [redacted], or email [redacted]
