This exhibition brings together a significant body of new and recent work by Sussex Craft Awards 2025 winner Marc Fish, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the extraordinary craftsmanship, technical innovation and sculptural beauty that have established Fish as an internationally recognised figure in contemporary art and design.
Fish’s distinctive works are often constructed from thousands of individually laminated timber veneers, painstakingly shaped into fluid, organic forms inspired by the rhythms of the natural world. Rather than imitating nature, his sculptures evoke processes of growth, erosion, geological formation and transformation, revealing an extraordinary dialogue between material, process and imagination. Each work represents years of experimentation and technical research. Through processes developed over decades, Fish transforms familiar materials into objects of remarkable complexity and refinement, where every surface records the evidence of making by hand. While many pieces retain a functional presence, they are fundamentally sculptural, inviting contemplation as much as use.
