PROMS AT THE LAKE - 100 Years in Nature
Tue 21 July · Halifax
Tuesday, 21 July 2026 – Saturday, 15 August 2026
About
Join us as we celebrate 100 years of Shibden Park with a spectacular evening of live orchestral music in its beautiful lakeside setting. As the sun begins to set, the park becomes an open-air concert hall, with the sound of a full orchestra carrying across the water to create a truly memorable summer evening. Performed by the world-renowned English Chamber Orchestra, with special guests Halifax Choral Society and Northern Ballet, the programme is inspired by the changing seasons, bringing together much-loved classical favourites and contemporary works.
From Mendelssohn's enchanting woodland and Vivaldi's Summer to Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on Greensleeves and the uplifting Hallelujah Chorus, the music celebrates the beauty and power of the natural world. A special highlight sees Northern Ballet perform a duet from Gentleman Jack in the grounds of Shibden Hall – the home of Anne Lister, whose remarkable life inspired the acclaimed television drama. It's a unique opportunity to experience this powerful performance in the very place where her story began.
Whether you're a lifelong classical music lover or simply looking for a special evening out, bring family and friends and enjoy exceptional live orchestral music in the beautiful surroundings of Shibden Park.
