Beryl Robinson – The Sinister Traveller

Beryl Robinson began painting at the age of 76, producing more than one hundred works in an intuitive creative outpouring that transformed her home into a makeshift studio. The Sinister Traveller brings together paintings created during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic. These powerful works reflect that atmosphere, offering a deeply personal and instinctive response to an extraordinary moment in time. Entirely self-taught, Robinson developed a distinctive visual language guided by instinct and compulsion. Her work has drawn comparisons to artists including William Blake, Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin and Stanley Spencer.
