About
6 session course runs weekly from Tuesday 15 September to 20 October, 1-3pm. Build your confidence and creativity in painting with experienced tutor Peter Stanyer. Through a series of structured, step-by-step projects, you'll develop your technical skills, deepen your understanding of painting, and begin to discover your own artistic style.
This course explores five key aspects of painting practice: The Eye – Learn to observe and interpret the world through direct observation and memory, inspired by artists such as Monet and Renoir. The Mind – Explore composition, structure and analytical approaches to painting, drawing inspiration from artists including Cézanne and Seurat. The Heart – Develop a more expressive and intuitive approach to painting, using emotion and imagination, inspired by artists such as Van Gogh and Munch.
Techniques and Materials – Build your knowledge of painting methods, colour, composition and experimental approaches using a range of materials. Art in Context – Gain an understanding of how historical and contemporary artists have influenced painting practice. By the end of the course, you'll have strengthened your core painting skills, gained confidence in your creative decision-making, and begun to develop your own artistic direction.
