Summer Fossil Hunting in Skinningrove with Land of Iron

Join us at Land of Iron for a summer fossil hunting adventure on the Skinningrove coastline. Walk down onto a beach that was once home to millions of prehistoric creatures, far beneath a tropical sea. Comb the beach with our staff and volunteers to find fossils, or even a nodule of ironstone if you’re lucky.

This activity takes place on selected dates in August 2026. Please note that, in order to make the most of the low tide, not all sessions are set at the same time. Please check the date and time carefully when booking your ticket.

Dates and times Wednesday 5 August, 12pm to 2pm Wednesday 12 August, 10am to 12pm Wednesday 19 August, 12pm to 2pm Friday 28 August, 12pm to 2pm Tickets are £4 per person, plus online booking fee. Tickets must be booked through Ticket Tailor: https://www.tickettailor.com/events/landofiron/2279371 Meeting point We will meet beyond the Fisherman’s Boat Carpark, at the end of Beach Road on the Hummersea side. Museum staff will wait on the walkway past the crash barrier leading up towards Loftus.

Parking is free, but spaces are limited. Please note, there is now a 4-hour maximum stay, and you must still obtain and display a ticket from the machine using your vehicle registration.

Please park considerately and avoid parking in front of residences in Skinningrove. The Land of Iron car park is also marked on the map, but please be aware that this is around a 10-minute walk from the beach. What to bring Equipment is provided by Land of Iron, but please bring your own wellies or suitable footwear.

If it is sunny, remember to bring sun cream. Children and supervision: Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Booking: Spaces are limited, so please book your place in advance using the button below.
