About

Tours are delivered in the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery by volunteer student guides from the University of Glasgow. We offer four different tours of the Museum which includes Museum Highlights, The Antonine Wall, Medical History and Curating Discomfort. Museum Highlights shows the breadth of The Hunterian collection and features objects from different areas of study including numismatics, palaeontology, zoology and archaeology.

Our Medical History Tour focuses on founder Dr. William Hunter's anatomical collection and medical instruments. The Antonine Wall tour showcases our collection of spectacular monumental sculpture and other Roman artefacts recovered from the Wall and looks at the role and lifestyle of the Roman army on the frontier. Our Curating Discomfort tour puts forward interventions to help us think critically about colonial systems, such as the British Empire.

Art Gallery visitors can enjoy the Art Gallery Highlights tour and learn about works by the Glasgow Boys, Scottish Colourists, Whistler and Mackintosh, Rembrandt and Rubens, as well as leading contemporary artists. We also offer a Hidden Histories tour exploring LGBTQIA+ histories and celebrating queer identities. This tour is available via booking only.
