About
Over two days, you’ll explore the full process of creating a traditional stained glass panel, with painted elements. On day one, you’ll begin by choosing your design from a selection of patterns. With guidance from your tutor, you’ll learn how to score glass to achieve an accurate break, and how to grind the edges to achieve a precise fit.
You will select coloured glass for your painted areas, and then be introduced to traditional glass painting techniques. You’ll experiment with applying the enamel paint through brushwork and stencils, and your painted pieces will be kiln-fired at intervals throughout the day, ready for assembly on day two. The second day focuses on the construction of your panel.
You’ll learn how to cut and shape the lead came, and assemble the individual pieces of glass on a wooden board to create a complete stained glass panel. You’ll then solder your work to bond the lead joints. As a finishing touch, you can ask your tutor to solder hanging fixings to the lead, or alternatively they will provide you with a display stand for your work.
