About
Exhibition open: July/Aug: Tues – Sun (11am – 5pm) Sept: Wed – Sun (11am – 5pm) The heart of this exhibition is an exploration of our entanglement with the natural world, a reflection on the place humans occupy within it and on the grief provoked by its neglect and destruction. In Spirits of the Forest, Jennifer Binnie presents a body of large-scale paintings, created over the past four years, in her Hastings studio. The life-size human and non-human creatures depicted in the works are conjured from Jennifer’s own spirit, emerging from a deeply personal and intuitive creative process. Binnie draws inspiration from encounter, experience and emotion, her relationship with non-human animals plays a significant role in her work, as does her experience being both painter and canvass as part of the performance art group the Neo Naturists. In Sprits of the Forrest we enter an ethereal realm invoked from Jennifer’s interior world.
