About

Exhibition open: July/Aug: Tues – Sun (11am – 5pm) Sept: Wed – Sun (11am – 5pm) Environmental artist Ryo Yamada presents a site-specific installation demonstrating future sea levels within Summerhall’s in Vitro Gallery. A delicately constructed architectural experience, invites us to consider environmental change. Scotland is now experiencing relative sea-level rise and all future projections expect the rate of this rise to speed up due to climate change and rising ocean temperatures. From 2006 – 2015, The global mean sea level rose by 3.6mm per year and the estimated global mean sea-level rise in the next 100 years is around half a metre. There are local variations in sea level rise which have important effects on Scotland. The area of Summerhall Arts currently sits at approximately 79m above sea level. Assuming that current sea-level rise continues, the exhibition demonstrates the future sea level in the In Vitro Gallery between 19000 to 20550 years in the future. Reference: 1.
