Highland Branch: DARK BORDERED BEAUTY MOTH MONITORING at RSPB Insh Marshes

There are currently only two sites in Scotland (and one in England) where the Dark Bordered Beauty moth is established, namely RSPB Insh Marshes in Strathspey and the Balmoral area of Deeside. However, there are ongoing attempts to translocate the moth to new sites in Strathspey. The moths are monitored annually by light trapping.

Come and join us at RSPB Insh Marshes as we look through live-catch moth traps as part of the annual monitoring programme. There should be plenty of species to see in the traps, some of which will be nationally scarce, but the Dark Bordered Beauty moth is expected to be star of the show. There’s no need to contact the leader beforehand – just turn up on the day.

Approx duration: To lunchtime and possibly beyond. What’s needed: Packed lunch (if staying beyond lunchtime) and midge repellent.
