About

The company of cranksters: Taletta Bierens, Wendy Dacre, Sarah Hurley and Peter Stevenson Come for an evening of storytelling with crankies – but it’s not what you think! Not grouchy characters, but magical stories in a box. Crankie storytellers are the most even-tempered people in the world (with maybe a touch of eccentricity) – and they stories they tell will give you miniature glimpses into another world. In this show you will discover the art of the crankie: a story told through scrolling pictures in a box turned by ‘cranks’ – a delightful and unexpected folk artform which brings a whole new dimension to storytelling for all ages. In this show you will discover a whole new world of unforgettably thrilling and atmospheric stories: and meet some of the most talented crankie performers from across the country and beyond. Encounter the Snake on the Western Wave told and sung by Wendy Dacre, shadow puppeteer and textile artist extraordinaire: and Sarah Hurley’s encounters with the more than human, in spooky tales from her Devon roots. Meet illustrator-author Peter Stevenson, launching three books of Welsh folktales, in magnificent crankie form: and all the way from the extraordinary bee garden in Bloemendahl, Netherlands, storyteller Taletta Bierens with the story of the Flying Ship. ‘fantastically varied creations’ ‘unusual, great stories: pure and beautiful images’ Supported by the East Anglian Storytelling Festival with funding from Arts Council England Suitable for ages 12+ (some slightly dark themes) Duration: 1.5-2 hours No booking fees when you become a Member – save from £3 per ticket!
