About
'ELIJAH' is Felix Mendelssohn’s tuneful, dramatic musical masterpiece, using four solo singers, a choir of 100, and Suffolk Philharmonic Orchestra to tell us the story of Elijah, a deeply human prophetic figure confronted with the age-old challenge of speaking the truth to power.
Living in a world of violence between conflicting belief systems in which catastrophic climate change has been brought about by human activity, it’s one man against a hostile state.
Gifted with the power to restore health to a dying child, and even to summon up rain in a time of drought, Elijah is pursued to the point of despair by those who want him dead, only to find fresh energy and renewed vision. Good triumphs over evil, and Elijah is whisked away “by a whirlwind into heaven!”
